Fire and Precision: Reed’s Place x Breitling Blackbird Red Strike – Time & Taste Episode 11

The time: 5:00 PM
The watch: Breitling Blackbird Red Strike Chronograph

A couple of years ago, I had the opportunity to visit a small town located about an hour south of Indianapolis, called Seymour. I love small towns, not only for the community aspect, but also, because you never know what you’re going to find, which is the subject of today’s story. In Seymour, there’s a gem of a restaurant called Reed’s Place: Steak and Chop Shoppe. This isn’t your average steakhouse. It’s meat mastery at its best. An institution of equal parts Midwestern hospitality and unapologetic carnivore ambition. This is the kind of place where you come hungry and leave converted. It demands a pairing that can keep up. Enter the Breitling Blackbird Red Strike Chronograph.

Limited to just 2,000 pieces, the Red Strike is no ordinary chronograph. At 44 millimeters, it’s a steel-clad reminder that bold design can still serve purpose. With a jet-black dial punctuated by blood-red accents, three subdials, and a bold big date complication, this watch doesn’t hide its mechanics. It embraces them. It’s a timepiece that thrives under pressure, like a broiler set to max, and the perfect companion for this adventure.

I decided to order a couple of main items they’re known for, so you’re in for a treat.

Now…sit back, relax, and let’s get on to the food!

Tomahawk Ribeye

Let’s start with this one. An impressive 3½ to 4-pound bone-in beast, the Tomahawk Ribeye is a table-dominating spectacle that balances brute force with buttery finesse. It arrives sizzling, crowned with melting garlic butter, and backed by green beans, baked potato, grilled asparagus, and toast points. It is cooked to perfection and melts in your mouth with every bite of juicy beefy flavor like no other. It’s a main event built for patience and payoff, just like the Red Strike’s automatic movement, which reveals its strength the longer you live with it.

Mohawk KanKan Pork

Ok, before I explain this dish, I need to give you some background on myself. Some of you may or may not know that I was born in Puerto Rico 🇵🇷. Why is that important? Because this dish, the KanKan Pork, or as we call it in Spanish “Chuleta Kan Kan” is from Puerto Rico. I grew up eating this dish, and I would have never expected to find it in Seymour Indiana of all places.

Now, this pork loin comes glazed in a house made Peach Crown Royal sauce and grilled to a glistening finish. Every slice, seasoned to perfection, lands juicy and just barely clings to the bone. The sweet-savory balance makes it a standout, with enough torque to match the power reserve of a Breitling automatic. Like the red accents on the watch’s dial, the flavor hits hard and finishes smooth. Do yourself a favor and order this dish when you go to Reed’s. Trust me.

The Pairing

Reed’s doesn’t do delicate. Neither does the Blackbird Red Strike Chronograph. Both are built for people who know exactly what they like: substance, presence, and just enough flash to make a statement. With every tick of the chronograph and every seared edge of steak, you’re reminded that refinement doesn’t mean restraint. It means mastery.

With its oversized case, screw-down crown, and red-detailed dial, the Red Strike delivers the kind of visual punch that mirrors Reed’s plating philosophy: big, bold, and built to last. It’s not just about how it looks, but how it performs, under pressure, over time, and always with presence. Like a perfectly cooked ribeye, it doesn’t whisper. It rumbles.
