Wok-Fired Wonder Meets Swiss Speed: KungFood AmerAsia x Zenith Defy 21 Chroma II – Time & Taste Episode 22

The time: 7:30 PM
The watch: Zenith Defy 21 Chroma II

In today’s episode of Time & Taste, we travel to Covington, Kentucky to visit an Asian restaurant I’ve heard about for a while, but haven’t had a chance to experience.

KungFood AmerAsia isn’t just a meal, it’s an all-out sensory brawl in the best way possible. Located in Covington, Kentucky, this vibrant, graffiti-tagged hideaway is a portal into a world where flavor, color, and creativity rule. The dishes here don’t whisper, they shout. And what better timepiece to match such a kaleidoscopic journey than the Zenith Defy 21 Chroma II, a technical marvel bursting with vibrant energy and modern edge.

Crab Rangoons

Let’s start with the Crab Rangoons, golden deep-fried wonton pouches filled with cream cheese and crab. I absolutely LOVE Crab Rangoons, and whenever I see these on a menu, I ALWAYS order them. They’re served with a side of sweet and sour sauce, delivering a delightful crunch followed by a smooth, savory hit of flavor. These crisp bites are as precise and unexpected as the Defy 21’s 1/100th of a second chronograph movement, tightly engineered and impossible to ignore.

Good Pot Stickers

Next, the Good Pot Stickers: wok-fried dumplings filled with minced pork shoulder, herbs, and green onion, paired with a garlic chili paste and soy-based dipping sauce. These are comforting yet punchy, with a perfect sear and meaty richness. They are a GAME CHANGER! Much like the openworked dial of the Chroma II, every bite reveals layers of complexity, where balance and boldness coexist in harmony.

Szechuan with Chicken

Then comes the fiery Szechuan with Chicken, a medley of julienned vegetables and chicken wok-fried in a sweet-and-sour soy vinegar sauce. The dish is vibrant and punchy, and yes, spicy enough to wake your taste buds from their deepest slumber. Its high-voltage flavor mirrors the watch’s color-coded chronograph scale, each second and ingredient singing its own note in a well-conducted visual and culinary symphony.

Mongolian Beef

Now for the Mongolian Beef, which is a dish I often order at Asian restaurants. It’s thinly sliced beef flash-seared with green and white onions, then coated with a rich hoisin and red chili oil-based sauce. Sweet, savory, and utterly craveable, this dish’s glossy depth of flavor mirrors the Defy 21’s black ceramic case. There’s a toughness to both, the kind that’s earned, not assumed.

The Pairing

Why the Zenith Defy 21 Chroma II? Because nothing about KungFood AmerAsia is traditional. Just as the restaurant reimagines Asian-American cuisine through a rebellious lens, this timepiece reimagines high horology with bursts of unexpected color and futuristic skeletonization. The ceramic case and rainbow indexes aren’t just for show, they symbolize a commitment to pushing boundaries, much like AmerAsia’s menu.

The watch’s skeleton dial exposes the fierce complexity of its inner workings, just as each dish at KungFood reveals the chef’s fearless hand in mixing flavors and cultures. Both are vibrant, precise, and exceptionally over the top.
